Coast Construction Company — Comet Tracker Keeps Employees
Honest
Company Profile
 Coast Construction Company
is a full service general contractor in the San Francisco Bay area specializing
in damage (fire and water) repair, residential and commercial remodeling. They have
been in business for 25 years serving mostly residential clients, but also have
commercial clientele (i.e. insurance companies).

Challenges
Prior to installing Comet Tracker, Coast Construction had no way of verifying where
their employees were. They wanted to have accurate arrival times, departure times,
plus speed and/or the length of time spent at a job site.
Cindy Larose, Operational Manager states, “At the time we purchased Comet Tracker,
there was only one other competitor available. We researched both products services
and decided that Comet Tracker was the best solution for our company. Comet Tracker
was much more user-friendly and we were more impressed with Comet Tracker’s capabilities.
Benefits
Coast Construction implemented Comet Tracker and was impressed with the product.
They use the solution for basic tracking purposes and for reporting (speed and stop
reports). Coast Construction especially likes the auto launch feature. Larose explains,
“Comet Tracker is our nanny cam. It keeps our people honest! They are aware it is
in place and it cuts down on receiving misrepresented hours worked.”
- Increased employee productivity
- Significant Return On Investment
- Maximized efficiency
“We currently have a worker that routinely over bills our company by 8-13 hours
bi-weekly for a job worked. We pay him $50 an hour. The over-billing for time not
worked cost us approximately $800-1300 monthly. On this employee alone, we will
save $800-1300 on a monthly basis which is $9,600-$15,600 yearly.”
— Cindy Larose, Operations Manager
Haas-Anderson Construction — Eliminating Stolen and
Lost Equipment
Company Profile
Based out of Corpus Christi, Texas Haas-Anderson Construction is a heavy civil construction
company that specializes in the construction of roads and bridges primarily for
the government and military. In addition to their government contracts, Haas-Anderson
also provides private contracted work. In business now for over thirty years, they
employ approximately 300 men and women.
Challenges
 Haas-Anderson often
dealt with the headaches of lost or stolen equipment and had no way to track the
property prior to implementing Actsoft’s Comet Tracker solution.
Owner Danny Whitfield stated, “The biggest challenge for us was finding the equipment
if it was stolen. There’s no way to do that if you don’t have a way to track it.
We simply had no way to know where the equipment was.”
Benefits
Each piece of equipment has been installed with mobile devices that have been loaded
with Comet Tracker software. The remote auto launch feature can be used in the event
that the equipment or vehicle is stolen. This feature allows them to precisely see
where the equipment is.
Since implementation, “We haven’t had a single piece of equipment stolen, so maybe
it has been a deterrent. We haven’t needed to go find anything. It’s also helping
keep track of the trucks and where they are located,” said Danny.
While theft prevention is the key benefit, Haas-Anderson also uses Comet Tracker
for employee tracking and general notification of what site the equipment is located
on.
“With equipment costs ranging from $27,000 to as much as $180,000, one piece of
equipment that is prevented from being stolen is a big return on investment.”
— Danny Whitfield, Owner
Southern Staircase — Stepping-up Employee Accountability
with Comet Tracker
Company Profile
 Over 25 years in the
business, Southern Staircase is a manufacturer of architect designed staircases.
With contracts out of Georgia, Southern Staircase deals in business ranging from
curved or spiral staircases, millwork, commercial or residential use, remodeling,
architectural wood designs or wrought iron metal balustrades, railings and spindles.
“They are a prompt, professional and state-of-the-art organization that really goes
out of its way to ensure that the client ends up with a well-serviced, quality product.
Everyone, from sales to the engineering staff, are prepared to efficiently and effectively
handle those tough problems that sometimes arise. With Southern Staircase, you can
rest assured that dedication to providing quality and service is priority number
one." - Ron Adamson, President, R.D. Adamson Contracting Company, Inc.

Challenges
With the growth of their company over the years, they have expanded to over 300
employees. During that growth, they have faced the challenge of reducing overtime,
increasing response times to customers and being able to hold their employees accountable
while out in the field. They had strong suspicions that their workers were “milking
the clock” and not being as productive as they could be, but they needed proof to
execute corrective action.
Benefits
Southern Staircase purchased Comet Tracker in 2005 because of the many features
the product had to offer. They were able to utilize the automated time clock for
installers who reported directly to job sites and not the home office.
For emergency repairs or service calls, they found the “Closest To” and dispatching
features extremely valuable in reducing drive time and fuel consumption. General
tracking also assisted their monitoring process by holding workers accountable for
their location claims.
“Currently we have an average 20% increase in productivity and return on investment.
I go by the motto ‘Big Brother is watching.’ No more 2 hour lunches and late arrivals
on jobs.”
— Gary Gray, Southern Staircase
