Actsoft Provides GPS Tracking Support for Pan Mass Challenge
Tampa, FL: For seven straight years, Actsoft
Inc. has provided GPS tracking support for the Pan Mass Challenge, a 190-mile bike
race to raise money for cancer research and treatment at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
The proceeds of the race go specifically to the Jimmy Fund. The PMC generates more than half of that fund's
annual income. Last weekend’s event is expected to surpass the ride’s fund-raising
goal of $31 million.
Actsoft’s Comet Tracker solution provides
GPS visibility for 40–50 mobile vans that monitor portions of the 190-mile route,
providing medical care and bicycle repairs for cyclists in need. When a call comes
in to the command center, Actsoft’s software shows the closest van to a reported
incident so that the command center can immediately dispatch that van to assist
the rider. This dramatically decreases response times to incidents along the route.
Each year, at least one person is admitted to the hospital during the bike-a-thon.
Getting the closest emergency vehicle to a “cyclist in need” improves the ability
to respond to en-route situations quickly.

Participants included Senators Scott Brown and John F. Kerry, both of whom led riders
from the starting line.
